A boy and his skink

Solomon caught the skink and we put it in a bug catcher cage. He loves having this skink, even though the cage material is blue and it is hard to see the skink inside unless it is right up close to the side.

I woke up yesterday to Abraham talking to the skink. At this point the skink has no name that I am aware of. I think about the Salamander that my brother had growing up for like a day. He caught it at Itasca State Park I think and it was being ‘housed’ in a ice cream bucket. My aunt and her friend were there visiting and somehow the salamander’s bucket was knocked off the counter throwing the said salamander onto the floor and was never seen again. So back to Abraham. He had taken the skink off of the buffet and was talking to it. I sat up straight in bed and was quickly out to the kitchen to make sure he knew to keep the door closed. Thankfully he did and life was good for me and the skink. Fast forward to after lunch time. I was in the bathroom with Abraham trying to determine his ethnicity when Solomon comes running in. “Mom, I accidentally dropped the skink’s cage and the skink is out in the kitchen.” I guess Abraham and is dirt will have to wait. Out to the kitchen I go to find the skink hiding in the sliding glass door track. After a pair of tongs and the help of the sliding glass door we got the skink out of the track and onto the deck. We almost got him back in the cage, but it grabbed hold of the deck and slipped through the boards! Solomon went under to try and catch it but it was just too fast.

And I don’t even think it was given a name. Poor Solomon.
